Mini Alien Quilt

Today I'm sharing an older finish with you in my ongoing attempt to get all of my finished quilts on the blog.  This is my Mini Alien Quilt.  Mini because I made a twin sized version for one of my nephews then a baby version for my then baby nephew.

Mini Alien Quilt - Full

The bigger quilt was made with a pattern designed for layer cakes and jelly rolls.  When I made the mini, I started with 5" squares and 1-1/2" strips.

Mini Alien Quilt - Left Detail

I collected alien fabric for years, a fat quarter here and a fat quarter there, until I had 20 different ones to make these quilts.

Mini Alien Quilt - Right Detail

I love how this pattern can take a bunch of mismatched fabric and make them into a cohesive quilt.

Mini Alien Quilt - Center Detail

The red squares throughout the top along with the red border and binding really bring this quilt together.

This quilt has been well loved and well used which makes it all worth it, doesn't it??

  1. That is really cute - I can't believe that all the fabrics were random and not from a single collection.

  2. Adorable!!! You did a great job with all the different fabrics. It really is hard to believe that they are not from the same set.

  3. I LOVE that quilt! That would have been a good one in place of the Film at Five I used for APOD, but the fun thing is that I have lots of fabric left over, since I collected many an alien and space fabric in that process, too!

  5. Fantastic! Those fabrics look like they were a lot of fun to work with, and the red really ties them together perfectly.

  6. It's a fantastic quilt Cathy! So colourful and interesting....no wonder it is well loved! I also like how it is centered around one theme...Aliens.

  7. What a cute quilt! I was just thinking yesterday that I need to record some of my older quilts, and the quilts my grandmother and cousin made me. I wish I had a better camera than just my phone, though. This autumn light doesn't let it "see" very well at all.
